A Brief Follow Up on the Texas Floods
A number of people reached out to me after my last post on “A Lament for Texas.” Thank you for caring so deeply and entering into this tragedy.
I want us to hear from someone who was impacted directly by this tragedy. I am deleting names to protect their privacy. This person shares some ways we can pray and that’s why I am sharing it here.
“With each passing hour and day, the tragedy of the flood waters that have ravaged the Hill Country, especially Kerr County and Camp Mystic, becomes more real and yet seems unreal. This email is both a personal plea for prayer for the area that has brought such joy in times past but also for my 11-year-old niece who just completed her second year as a camper at Camp Mystic. (Note: This young girl was not at camp when the floods occurred)
Please pray for my niece (and all young people who have been to these camps)
That as she processes all that happened and her grief at losing friends and the destruction of Camp Mystic, she will know the love and safety of her family and of God.
That she would not become angry at God, believing that He caused this tragedy.
For wisdom and guidance for her parents her grandparents as they help her work through this level of tragedy so early in her life.
Please also pray for the people of the Hill Country
That the bodies of all the missing will be found and those bodies yet to be identified will be so the families can begin to have some sense of closure.
That the blame and accusations that have already begun in this age of social media will be tamped down.
That somehow, the inexplicable peace of our good and gracious God would touch every family and community who is grieving and redeem this tragedy.
And so we pray to almighty God, the creator of heaven and earth. We come alongside this woman and her niece and the thousands and thousands of people who are also experiencing such intense pain and loss and suffering. May they know God’s great mercy and nearness.
